Overview
Beautiful Oakhurst Garden was the first garden in the Wylde Center family. It was founded in 1997 as a community garden that focused on environmental education. Since then, the garden has seen a lot of change, most recent with large-scale improvements to the garden and the building on the property. Because it was the first garden, people often refer to Oakhurst Garden as Wylde Center.
Although only 1.5 acres, Oakhurst Garden has so much to explore including Wylde Woods, Wylde Plant Market, rain gardens, and mini ecosystems throughout.
Location
The Oakhurst Garden is located at 435 Oakview Road in the Oakhurst Neighborhood of Decatur, at the corner of South McDonough Street and Oakview Road. We are southwest of Agnes Scott College and just east of the Oakhurst Village. View map.
Note: Wylde Center uses the address of the Oakhurst Garden as our mailing address.
What to Expect
Guests to the Oakhurst Garden enjoy walking through the garden, admiring the plants and trees or sitting at a picnic table watching the birds. Because the garden hosts Shoal Creek, visitors can sometimes spot other wildlife. The garden is open to the public at no charge from sun up to sundown.
Pets are welcome in the garden when leashed.
