Urban Coop Tour

Thanks for your interest in our Atlanta Urban Coop Tour!  This year we are replacing our annual tour with the Chicks in the City Symposium on March 26, 2016.  Please click here for more information about the Symposium

From the organizers:

“In organizing the Coop Tour, we have always tried to be mindful about the dangers of spreading disease between coops (providing bootees for visitors, discouraging direct contact with the chickens, and explaining why biosecurity is important). However, in support of Georgia’s response plan to the threat of avian influenza, we felt it responsible to cancel the forthcoming 2016 Atlanta Urban Coop Tour.

We do not want to lose the momentum created over the past nine years, so instead are organizing a full-day educational event for urban chicken lovers, that will maintain the interest and educational benefits of the tour, while offering something a little bit different from our usual format:

“The Wylde Center and the Atlanta History Center will be co-hosting the ‘Chicks in the City’ Symposium on Saturday March 26, 2016, 9:30-5pm. The all-day event will be held at the Atlanta History Center, and will offer a mixture of classes, exhibitors and our usual party/silent auction. The location means we will have a slightly stronger heritage focus than usual, including an introductory session discussing the development of the Smith Family Farm/how our grandparents raised chickens/heirloom breeds.”
