Wylde Art and Nature Series

Throughout the year Wylde Center is hosting a variety of art and nature programs at each of our five gardens.

Our Art and Nature Series is sponsored by 

 

Use Nature to Dye Yarn
Saturday, November 10, 2018
10-noon
Oakhurst Garden, 435 Oakview Road, Decatur, GA 30030
FEE: $25 Wylde Member, $36 General Public

Join Ms. Christy from Kids Go Wild to learn how to color yarn using plant based natural dyes. Students will also identify plants that may be used for dying yarn as well as the science behind the art. Students will leave with their own dyed yarn.  Open to students ages 10 to adult

(Please note that students participating in Sunday’s weaving class will use their yarn for their project.)

Additional class fee paid to instructor day of the Saturday workshop: $10.00.

Instructor will supply: yarn, dye, gloves, masks. Students should wear clothing and shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) that can get dye on them.

Weave a Garden Scene
Sunday, November 11, 2018

Oakhurst Garden, 435 Oakview Road, Decatur, GA 30030
FEE: $36 Wylde Member, $54 General Public

Students will use table top looms to create a garden scene using naturally dyed yarn. Students who participated in the 11/10 natural dye class will use their yarn for their weaving artwork. Additional yarn will be available for use by all of the students. The students will choose a scene in the garden, create a graph, and then weave the scene to create their very own wall hanging, holiday table runner(small) or holiday centerpiece. Open to students ages 10 to adult

Additional supply fee: $5.00 for Sunday workshop only. No supply fee for Saturday workshop students.

Make Your Very Own Flashlight or LED Creature

Edgewood Community Learning Garden, 1503 Hardee Street, Atlanta, GA 30307

FEE: $7 Wylde Member, $12 General Public

Join YAY Studio to make your very own LED flashlight that will either complement your costume or light your way on Halloween, or both! Students will learn how to creatively make a flashlight by combining materials that are easily found and assembled with a LED light and button battery. All materials are provided and you can take your creation home.

YAY Studio consists of Robert Hill and Nicolette Morgan, a duo that offers STEM and STEAM programing in a neighborhood setting.

For students 5 and up
Limited to 20 students

Dropoff policy: We encourage parents with children in grades K-1 stay to help their child with the assembly. All parents are also welcome to stay and make, or run that short errand.

Papermaking Using Fall Leaves

YAY Studio will engage students in the beautiful art of making paper using nature’s beautiful autumn leaves. Students will start with paper pulp and use papermaking equipment to make several sheets to take home. They will also use paper pulp to decoupage around autumn leaves to create a work of paper art!

YAY Studio consists of Robert Hill and Nicolette Morgan, a duo that offers STEM and STEAM programing in a neighborhood setting.

Light Up the Winter Holidays!

Edgewood Community Learning Garden, 1503 Hardee Street, Atlanta, GA 30307

FEE: $7 Wylde Member, $12 General Public

Students will join YAY Studio to make winter decorations that will light up the home including a hollowed out eggs lit up by LED lights. A table full of crafting materials will also be on hand to add accents to the the egg lights as well as create other decorations to light up your home during the winter months.
