The City of Decatur, in partnership with the Wylde Center, will be holding its annual Decatur Earth Day Festival (DEDF) on Saturday, April 19, 2014, 1-4 p.m. at the Oakhurst Garden at the corner of Oakview and South McDonough, Decatur. This celebration of Earth Day is Pirate themed and is a fun and festive way for more than 400 members of the community to come together and pARRRticipate in celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day at the city’s OFFICIAL EARTH DAY PARTY. Show your support and like our Facebook Page. The celebration will kick off with a pirate led pARRRade that will go from Harmony Park to the Oakhurst GARRRden site, beginning at 12:30 pm. We have an exciting array of events planned for children, youth and adults and include, for example:
Lots of Fun for the Kids
Kids will enjoy the ARRRTS & crafts, scavenger hunts, and festive pirate performers. A pirate ship will be parked in front of the garden and live birds of prey will be on hand to interact with.

Whether it’s telling stories over coffee with friends or as a host of shows for Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters, Wylde Center member Audrey Galex is honored to serve as this year’s Earth Day Festival emcee. She’s committed to the environment everyday as a board member of Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta and of the Friends of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. Audrey is also co-founder of Atlanta’s “facing project,” an arts collective aimed at confronting the crisis of child sex trafficking in Atlanta. She’s also passionate about her circle of family and friends — and the sacred connections between everyone and all things.
Earth Day T-shirt Contest!
Children in grades K-12 are welcome to submit a design. Designing for a T Shirt could be a classroom exercise or extracurricular fun for any interested artist. The grand prize entry will be on the 2014 Earth Day Celebration T-Shirt and all entries will be on display at the Decatur Library. The entry deadline is Tuesday, March 25, 5pm and the winners will be notified on April 1. All entries are due to the Wylde Center Offices at the Oakhurst Garden, 435 Oakview Road, Decatur, GA 30030 and must have a submission form attached to be included in the contest. Prizes will be awarded at the 2014 Earth Day Celebration at the Oakhurst Garden at 1:30pm on April 19. The Oakhurst Garden of the Wylde Center is located at 435 Oakview Road, Decatur, GA 30030. Call for Vendors
Vendor tables will be assigned to spaces on Oakview Rd. We are recruiting organizations in the community whose mission may coincide with that of Earth Day Celebrants and who are concerned with environmental stewardship issues. Call for Children Craft Providers
The DEDF is a family friendly event. Building upon tradition, local artists, organizations, camps, and schools provide free earth day crafts for participating children. Great way to promote your mission! Please plan on providing crafts for 75+ children. No vendor fee is necessary for those providing crafts for the children. Space is limited to 15 craft tables. Spaces are assigned. We ask that each organization provides a different earth friendly craft. The first organization who applies with a craft idea has the privilege of providing chosen craft. Consider baking an Earth Day themed cake for our annual Cake Contest! We are accepting amateur (up to 12th grade) and Professional levels. Drop cakes off between 2:30pm and 4:30pm on Friday, April 18 and 10 am- 11am on festival day, April 19, at the Wylde Center offices, Oakhurst Garden 435 Oakview Road, Decatur, GA 30030. Application will be posted here. Bakeries, families, groups, and individuals are welcome to submit. Judging occurs at 1:30 p.m April 19 and winners announced at 2:30ish from the stage.
